It’s official! 27 years with no fatality!

Yesterday I celebrated my 27th birthday… well, I actually started celebrating last Friday…

It’s funny… I don’t really like making a big deal out of my birthday, but my wife sure does! Friday morning, since she can’t handle suspense, she gives me my birthday present (the one I didn’t already know about), which is a killer new Fossil watch with a big-@$$ leather band. Then, we went out for dinner and video games at Dave and Buster’s that evening. Monday I get a card in the mail at work from her. Tuesday (my actual birthday), she leaves a card in the seat of my car, fixes me a nice dinner, and puts up with me watching TVs and playing some Xbox 360 at Bestbuy (of course she got a free coffee maker out of the Bestbuy deal, but hey… I’m sure her intentions were altruistic).

I had never really thought much of birthdays (except of course for the important ones… 16 for driving, 18 for adult status, 21 for handgun purchases, 25 for lower car insurance…) because to me it’s just celebrating being another year older and (depending on your point of view) escaping death for 12 more months, or being 12 months closer to death. But Ann said something in one of her cards. Paraphrased she said that she was glad God had made me and had put the two of us together as part of his Will. And it made me realize there’s more to a birthday than just being one year older… you’re celebrating the fact that God in his wisdom, actually created you. It sure puts a different spin on the whole B-Day celebration…

I’d say I hope you had a good b-day, but with an onion volcano…. a chef that caught an egg on his hat…. and California rolls….I know that there was no way it could have been anything less than amazing. ;)
