The Straight Dope is a column and a series of books written by Cecil Adams (which is clearly a pseudonym, possibly for Cecil’s “editor” Ed Zotti). His column is carried in many alternative newspapers across the country. Cecil is probably the world’s greatest reference librarian… You can ask him anything (well, nearly, there is a list of question he won’t answer) and he will answer it to the best of all mankind’s knowledge. He has published several books of these questions and answers and puts out a weekly newsletter which includes one new question and two old and/or staff answered questions. Cecil is truly a font of useless information… and I love it. So check it out: The Straight Dope
