Hydrogen Cell Cars are HERE!

Several auto manufacturers have stated intentions to produce a commercially viable electric powered, hydrogen cell-fueled vehicle whose only emission will be water.  One of them has already done it.

In summer of 2008, Honda will make available a limited number of FCX Clarities. They will only be available to certain residents of the Santa Monica, CA area due to a limited hydrogen refueling network.  For their $600/month lease payment they will receive a 4-seater sedan capable of reaching 100 miles per hour, full insurance coverage and maintenance on the vehicle.  Honda states that as the hydrogen infrastructure grows, more Clarities will be made available in more areas.

Honda is also working on a Home Energy Station that will not only power and heat your home, but it will provide fuel for said hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.  Refueling anywhere other than your garage could become a thing of the past!

Anyway, I just wanted to share this, as I feel this is a huge step towards reducing (and eventually ending) our dependence on foreign oil, and thus clouding our foreign policy with various parts of the world – especially the Middle East.

Very interesting. Is this the car you were talking about the other day?

No, that was the GM Hy-Wire, which is still in development. It’s a pretty stinkin’ cool idea, and looks more “futuristic” than this car… but it’s not going to be on the market for another 2-3 years (according to GM).

It’s about time someone started taking our foreing oil problem seriously. The US has known we were heading for trouble for almost 40 years now. Our politicians don’t give a crap about oil prices and pollution because half of them are or were in the oil business. Private business is what will get us off the oil spigot, and none too soon. My question is, though, if hydrogen comes from natural gas, then we really aren’t going to save US citizens much money. Natural gas has become as outrageously priced as oil. At least we won’t be enriching our enemey any more if this ever gets put into universal use.

FYI Steve and Colin went shooting with Roger a few weeks ago. Roger brought his rifles since my guys don’t own any weaponry. They fell in love with the Swiss K-41, and are now both proud owners of this vintage WWII bolt action Swiss Army rifle. They went out together this past Saturday to re-break them in. The smiles were miles wide. Danielle says she has you to thank for Roger’s collection. Roger has passed the torch on.

Yup, I’m to blame. I don’t know how much Danielle wants to thank me though. =)

I’m glad they had a good time and that they too have gotten into the addiction *ahem* I mean hobby. I posted about it last year, but I finally got Ann into it, and just this past week we went out shooting again, it was great.
