8 years of Marriage

Posted by Captain | Posted in Ann, Celebratory, Marriage | Posted on 04-04-2009

This week (Tuesday the 31st – but only because Ann wouldn’t agree to the best April Fool’s day prank ever) Ann and I celebrated 8 years of marriage. The good news was we realized that this year we could actually celebrate being happily married for more than half the time we’ve been married.

I thank God for that wonderful woman every day and I thank God for the great friends who showed us that we could make it, no matter how bleak things got. But today I want to publicly thank them. Roger and Danielle, Brent and Jerren – without the four of you and almighty God, Ann and I would not be together today and we wouldn’t be anywhere near as happy, fulfilled, or complete as we are. Thank you so much!

Breaking News

I just realized in the last post I alluded several times, but I’ve never announced it… Ann is pregnant again – she’s just about 12 weeks along and her first sonogram is looking great! I’ll post a scan of it here in a bit.

Good to Great!

This weekend Ann and I attended a marriage retreat put on by our church and our lead pastor, Steve Stroope.  Unlike a lot of marriage seminars/conferences/retreats that I’ve seen and/or attended, it was not content driven.  Instead Ann and I were given direction, guidance and time to dream individually, compare said dreams, and then develop strategies together to accomplish them.  On top of that we were encouraged to spend as much time together as possible (including an assigned date last night-we could do whatever we wanted, as long as we did it together).

The biggest little “nugget” that I walked away with (other than realizing that Ann and I are on the same page on darn near everything dream-wise) was this from our worship pastor, Danny Davis:

There is no radical difference in my life if I get everything I want or if I get nothing I want.  Knowing this frees me up to spend my energy and time making sure Ann has her needs met.

This weekend also marked another large milestone.  It was the first time we were away from Lilybeth overnight.  She did really well while Grand Ma watched her apparently.  That said, she would not, under any circumstances, go down for a nap after we got home this afternoon… that is until Ann let her fall asleep while she was lying on Ann’s chest while Ann was lying on the couch watching the NFL Pro Bowl.  I’ve never seen my wife happier than when I walked by the couch just now.

WOOT!

Remember last week faithful readers (all two of you) when I said that relief had finally come?

Well, things just got better today. Ann just received a call from the Missions department here at church… and they have decided to hire her! She’ll start full time a week from tomorrow as the Missions Coordinator (or some such thing), she’ll be a liason between the staff and the volunteer team leaders and will basically be equipping the mission teams to do their work.

On a side note, we were asked where we wanted to go (mission trip wise) so I guess we’ll need to get off our duffs and actually get our passports…

Nicknames

Posted by Captain | Posted in Ann, Baby, Kids | Posted on 10-06-2007

So I’ve been thinking a lot about nicknames lately. After all, I’ve got a daughter arriving any day now (not nearly soon enough for my wife!), and I’m sure she will inevitably end up with a nickname. I’m just one of those people who doesn’t use names. I dunno… Is it just me, or do you never use a person’s name unless you’re describing them to someone else, or trying to get their attention?

this man was not meant to be alone!

So yesterday was Easter and it was phenomenal… but I’m not going to talk about that right now. I’m going to talk about the three weeks leading up to it. They were crazy. And I don’t mean looney bin crazy, I mean M.C. Escher meets Stephen Hawkins crazy (I’m pretty sure I worked 28 hours one day and yet still had time to catch about 6 hours of sleep and watch a movie… see what I mean?). Anyway, I toured the beautiful north eastern part of our country, and edited ad infinitum. Did I mention my wife is 7 months pregnant and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during this time? It’s not surprising I forgot, since I didn’t see much of her (or my two pathetic dogs who apparently laid by the door whining all this time).

the most beautiful woman in the world!

So today I met the most beautiful woman in the world…

Say hello to my little friend!

Little Baby Dooley

I’ve kept it bottled up too long! Ann is 7 1/2 weeks pregnant! Today we saw the above sonogram and were actually able to see the babies heartbeat! The baby is due about June 17-18. We’re both really really happy as we’ve been trying to have a kid for about 2 1/2 years now. We’re also really, really scared as this is (obviously) our first.

So to answer the question, yes we have names picked out… but they’re a surprise (except the few of you who already know).

I will, of course, keep you all updated via this wonderful blog…
